24 Nov International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
The 25th of November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and marks the first day of 16 Days of Activism.
Content Warning Discussions of Sexual Violence and Death
This year’s 16 Days campaign theme remains Ending Femicide. Femicide is the killing of women because of their sex, gender identity and/or expression. In 2020, a woman or girl was killed by someone in their family every 11 minutes (UNODC – United Nations). Although femicide impacts women and girls internationally, this risk increases with multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination. In so called Australia, First Nations women are among the most affected by the violence of femicide and its ongoing impact from invasion and the Stolen Generation.
