DESCRIPTION:BRISSC is excited to introduce you our new program: COMMON GROUND\, starting in October. \nCommon Ground is a peer program\, designed to empower community members to organize in a way that supports them to work together\, within the context and frameworks of the Brisbane Rape and Incest Survivor Support Centre (BRISSC). We hope to support participants to: \n\ndevelop new skills and deliver peer support to other survivors of violence\,\nengage in creative and participatory activities and connect with other people in their community while providing a safe and supportive environment for women and gender diverse survivors of Violence.\n\nIf you are wanting to take the next step in your journey of healing towards addressing sexual violence in our community\, we would like to invite you to send us your expression of interest before 22nd September   to indigo@brissc.org.au  \nSome things to consider if you are considering sending an expression of interest: \n\nThis is not a support group\nWe welcome participants who are comfortable in diverse group settings\nCommitment to attend an 8 week group beginning in October\n\nWe will be contacting people who share an EOI with some questions and an opportunity for follow up conversations with the facilitators about potential participation.

DESCRIPTION:If this house could talk… Exhibition Opening Night \nLegendary Brisbane advocacy collective Women’s House in collaboration with Ya’djin Women’s Collective commemorates 50 years of women’s struggle to end domestic and sexual violence. \nThis exhibition project will honour and acknowledge the history and culture of one of the oldest collectively run feminist programs in Australia. In Queensland\, this meant campaigning and protesting for better rights for women – indeed surviving – during the Bjelke-Petersen years. Federally\, the collective was caught in the storms of the Whitlam/Fraser era\, and the changing landscape of women’s lib and waves of feminism. The exhibition will involve Ya’djin Women’s Collective First Nation Weavers Project that has been created in and with community over the past year\, as well as screen printing\, writing and music workshops done by community. In addition\, filming for a 60-minute documentary detailing the ‘herstory’ of Women’s House and the stories of the collective will be taking place on the night. \nIt will run from 31st July – 8th August and then will turn into a digital exhibit on Women’s House website.
